What is AFWERX?

AFWERX is the innovation arm of the U.S. Air Force and Space Force. It was created to bring commercial technology into the Air Force faster by working directly with startups and small businesses.

AFWERX runs SBIR topics on behalf of the Air Force and Space Force, plus open challenges, pitch events, and accelerator programs. Their STRATFI and TACFI programs are designed to accelerate Phase II companies into larger production contracts.

AFWERX is widely considered the most startup-friendly entry point into DoD. The process is faster, the people are more accessible, and the pathway from first engagement to contract is shorter than traditional defense programs.

Most AFWERX opportunities do not appear on SAM.gov. They are announced through AFWERX channels, email lists, and community events. Missing the announcement means missing the window.
